BIRAC-BIG GRANT OF RS. 50 LAKHS
Title: Automated Intraoral Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Device for treatment of oral submucous fibrosis
Primary Investigator: Dr. Mahesh Chavan. MDS, Ph.D.
Professor, Dept. of Oral Medicine and Radiology
The innovative idea of automated intraoral physiotherapy and rehabilitation device has received a BIG grant of Rs 50 Lakhs. The development of innovation is carried out by the startup - Innovatia Biomed LLP. The postgraduate students of Dept. of Oral Medicine and Radiology- Dr. Shrutika Sonawane, Dr. Lavnya Pasalkar and Dr. Trupti Gaikwad are partners in the startup.
This device aims at the Physiotherapy of patients treated with the gold standard therapy of intralesional injections for the disease of Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). The patients affected with the condition of OSMF have fibrosis and blanching of oral mucosa which results in reduced Mouth opening and cheek flexibility. The Purpose of this device is to increase mouth opening by 6mm to 8mm and cheek flexibility by 2mm to 4mm when used for 1 month with gold standard therapy.
