Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Dr. D Y Patil Dental College and Hospital is a surgical specialty unit focusing on reconstructive surgery of the face, facial trauma surgery, the oral cavity, head and neck, mouth and jaws, as well as facial cosmetic surgery/facial plastic surgery, including cleft lip and cleft palate surgery.

An Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon is a regional specialist surgeon who treats the entire craniofacial complex; anatomical areas of the mouth, jaws, face and skull, head and neck, as well as associated structures.

In India, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, popularly known as OMFS is a branch recognized by DCI (Dental Council of India).

The scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in India includes the practice of head and neck cancer, facial cosmetic surgery, microvascular surgery, cranio-maxillofacial trauma and cleft and cranio-maxillofacial surgery.

Maxillofacial surgery can be performed to:

  1. Facial aesthetics and hair transplant

  2. treatment Osmf disease

  3. treatment of Tmj ankylosis

  4. Aesthetics

  5. Improve jaw function

  6. Relieve pain

  7. Correcting congenital abnormalities, such as cleft lip and palate

  8. Diagnosing and treating cysts, tumors, cancers, and other growths in head and neck

  9. Treating facial trauma such as facial fractures or damaged maxillofacial tissue
