The Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry at Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College and hospital, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune provides comprehensive and holistic dental care for infants, adolescents and children with special health care needs. The department boasts of state of art equipment, usage of recent and new dental materials and a vast experience of faculty members in the field of paediatric dentistry. This further ensures that a beneficial environment is created for clinical skill building, academics and research activities for both undergraduates and postgraduate students. The department provides an integrated treatment approach for complex cases like full mouth rehabilitation of children with special health care under general anaesthesia effectively and efficiently. The department of pediatric dentistry is working in collaboration with department of Pediatrics and a child psychologist to ensure that the students develop an holistic approach towards treatment of patients
The department also conducts various other community-based extension activities and camps as a part of social outreach programs to ensure students get a maximum exposure to dental needs of the patients. The department of pediatric and preventive dentistry has conducted more than 100 screening and treatment camps in the last five years. The programs which were conducted include school Dental Health Program for underprivileged students and schools under PCMC, oral health check up of special children, regular dental check of children attending the OPD and IPD of the Department of Pediatric, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital, Pune. The department has also adopted Fazlani orphanage and Zep school for special children. The department has also conducted awareness rallies to highlight the importance or oral health among the general public. These activities also help in building qualities like compassion, empathy, understanding in the future paediatric dentists
